Whelan Avenue, Rookwood Cemetery

Devcon successfully upgraded the long-serving Whelan Avenue and enhanced its stormwater drainage system which will significantly extend the lifespan of the new road, by ensuring improved drainage efficiency. Additionally, the project involved reclaiming part of the roadway and converting it into additional burial plots to meet continuing supply requirements. 

The work was carried out in multiple stages to ensure continued access to adjacent burial areas, with a high level of sensitivity due to the proximity of high-voltage services to the excavation areas.

In another section of the cemetery, Devcon reconstructed the Armenian Road, which improved access to the cemetery’s work yard. Notably, a custom-designed, low-profile kerb was also installed to accommodate the shallow grades around the existing road.
