Career Pathway
CONSTRUCTION WORKER
Manual labour such as digging and backfilling trenches, pit rendering, setting up safety fencing, and maintaining clean worksites. You will also learn to operate hand tools, small machinery, and work with materials commonly used on site. This role provides you with the foundational skills and industry knowledge needed to advance your career to the next level.
MACHINE OPERATOR
A Machine Operator is a skilled worker who operates industrial machines or specialised equipment. They are responsible for set-up, operation, and maintenance.
DRAINAGE INSTALLER
Install below-ground drainage systems for stormwater, using a variety of pipe sizes and materials. This role also includes the installation of pits as part of the drainage infrastructure.
CONCRETER
Concreters pour, spread, smooth and finish concrete for structures such as roads, floors, stairs, ramps, footpaths and bridges.
LANDSCAPER
Landscapers prepare plans, select materials and plants, and schedule landscape construction. They set out and install hardscape and softscape structures.
Junior Surveyor
An entry-level position focused on learning equipment and techniques to set out different aspects of the works, land and property boundaries.
FOREMAN/SITE MANAGER
With industry training and experience, this role involves supervising and managing the construction of projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
LEADING HAND
A senior worker on a construction site who acts as a team leader, assisting the Site Manager by overseeing a specific crew or section of the project. They focus on supervising workers, managing day-to-day tasks, and participate in labouring and operating machinery when needed.
SURVEYOR
Surveyors take measurements to determine land and property boundaries, prepare maps and survey plots. They use precise measuring equipment and technical expertise to locate and define land boundaries.
